Santa Claus (Sinterklaas)

The good Santa Claus arrives with his Black Peters with the amphibious ship from Spain.

At the Casino this boat rides to the beach (14h) and continues its way through the streets of Middelkerke. Then Santa Claus greets all the children at the town hall .

This spectacle is followed by a free Santa Claus show in center The Branding Populierenlaan 35 (15h).

 

Sinterklaas is a traditional Winter holiday figure still celebrated on 6 December in Belgium. (5 December in Holland). He brings sweets and presents to all good children. In the folklore Zwarte Piet (Black Peter) is a companion of Saint Nicholas.

 

First when the Saint is welcomed with a parade as he arrives in the country, generally by boat, having traveled from Spain. The tasks of the Zwarte Pieten are mostly to amuse children, and to scatter sweets for those who come to meet the Saint as he visits stores, schools, and other places.
